The Japanese car-maker dethrones General Motors’ 82-year run at the top

24 Apr 2007

TOYOTA Motor Corporation is now officially the world’s largest car-maker.

The Japanese giant has finally knocked General Motors off the top of the tree.

Worldwide sales for the first quarter of 2007 show that Toyota sold 2.348 million vehicles, against General Motors’ 2.26 million.

General Motors has held onto the number one position since it surpassed the Ford Motor Company in sales in 1925.

Strong sales of the Camry, Corolla and Prius have fuelled Toyota’s sales surge this year.
