Toyota Kluger leads recent SUV recalls

Braking bad: While only 21 examples of the Toyota Kluger have been called back, their faulty vacuum pump could cause a loss of braking assistance.

Latest safety call backs led by Toyota, Hyundai, Peugeot and Range Rover

THE Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) has issued safety recall notices for the Toyota Kluger, Hyundai Santa Fe, Peugeot 4008 and the Range Rover Velar over several manufacturing faults.

Toyota Australia has called back 21 Kluger large SUVs due to a fault in the lubrication passage of their vacuum pump, which could potentially lead to a loss of braking assistance and/or the illumination of a warning light.

Peugeot Australia has issued two recalls for its 4008 small SUV, both of which pertain to faults in the door lock mechanism.

The first recall affects 296 vehicles sold from October 1, 2015 to December 31, 2015, and concerns the 4008's right-hand door locks that are susceptible to failure, resulting in inoperable doors.

Affecting 337 4008s sold between May 1, 2015 and October 30, 2015, the second recall notice details an issue that causes the door locks to jam, preventing the doors from closing and causing unexpected unlocking and opening.

Hyundai Motor Company Australia has called back Santa Fe large SUV sold between June 15, 2017 and December 28, 2017, due to an issue that could see the steering wheel assembly separate from the column, resulting in a loss of steering.

Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) Australia has recalled examples of the Range Rover Velar that could be subject to a faulty fresh air flap in the heating system.

This part could lead to reduced window demisting functions, which in turn may obscure the driver's vision.

Owners affected by each of the aforementioned recalls will be directly contacted via mail by their manufacturer with instructions to take their vehicle to a preferred dealership for a free-of-charge resolution.

Customers can also check if their vehicle is affected by searching the ACCC’s Product Safety Australia website, which features a list of affected vehicle identification numbers.
