Citroen C5 recalled

Wiped: Citroen has recalled the C5 over a possible windscreen wiper issue.

French carmaker Citroen recalls 151 C5s over windscreen wipers

13 Apr 2011

CITROEN has issued a national recall on 151 of its second-generation C5 large cars due to a potential windscreen wiper fault.

The recall notice on the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) website says that the wiper mechanism may cease to work, attributing it to “an internal non-conformity in the driver's side windscreen wiper motor”.

Citroen Australia public affairs manager Edward Rowe told GoAuto that it is part of a wider global recall and that there have been no reported instances of wiper failure on the local market.

Owners of affected vehicles will be contacted by Citroen in writing and are advised to contact their local dealer for a wiper motor replacement.

Citroen recalled 79 C5s over the same problem in January of this year, while 1586 local Citroens – including C5s – were also recalled that month over a possible braking assistance issue.

The French manufacturer has sold just 40 C5s so far this year, down 55.6 per cent on the same time last year. In March the big Citroen found 18 homes, equating to a 0.3 per cent market share.

Citroen’s overall sales are down 20.8 per cent so far in 2011, with only its recently introduced second-generation C3 small-car and the C4 Grand Picasso people mover showing sales growth for the year.
