Knees up: The 159 comes equipped with dual front knee airbags.

Alfa's new 159 is already winning awards, having received a 5-star crash test rating

18 Jan 2006

ALFA Romeo’s new 159 has received a five-star EuroNCAP crash test rating.

The 159, which goes on sale here mid-year, also scored strongly in active safety with its new double wishbone suspension, dynamic control, anti-slip regulation, brake assist and anti-lock brake systems.

It also has up to eight airbags, including two kneebags, active headrests and pre-tensioner seatbelts.

The 159, which replaces the 156, will be available with a 2.2-litre JTS four-cylinder or a Holden-sourced 191kW/322Nm 3.2-litre JTS V6.

The four cylinder will have front-wheel drive mated to either a six-speed manual or auto gearbox.
