Subaru grows Outback range for 2022

SUBY GOT BACK: Outback SUV range refreshed for 2022 with additional Premium Special Edition variant.

Premium Special Edition joins Outback line-up; range starts at $40,690

20 Dec 2021

SUBARU has refreshed its Outback SUV for 2022 and added an all-new variant, replete with heated rear outboard seats, a powered tailgate and “a few special extras”, to the mildly revised range.

Available from Q1 next year, the MY22 Outback line-up will be joined by the second-tier Outback AWD Premium Special Edition. The derivative will be priced from $44,190 (plus on-road costs) and slot between the entry-grade Outback AWD ($40,690) and third-rung Outback AWD Sport ($45,190).

The range remains topped by the Outback AWD Touring from $48,990.

Those prices see the Outback AWD and Sport increase in price by $700, while the premium for the range-topping Touring goes up by $1200.

“The Outback combines comfort, safety and practicality to create a car that's truly the ultimate lifestyle companion. Its intelligent safety technology, cutting-edge engineering and all-wheel-drive capability make it the most luxurious and advanced Subaru SUV,” Subaru Australia general manager Blair Read said.

“We are delighted to offer additional choice to our customers within the 2022 Subaru Outback range, including our Outback AWD Premium Special Edition, which offers additional features that further enhance driver comfort,” he added.

The new Outback AWD Premium Special Edition includes front and rear outboard heated seats, Nappa leather accented trim, sat-nav, as well as a hands-free powered tailgate over the equipment offerings found in its derivative model.

A new paint colour – Sapphire Blue Pearl, which replaces Dark Blue Pearl – is available on all variants, which feature a handy new seatback pocket design.

The entry-grade Outback AWD gains a new 18-inch alloy-wheel design with black centre cap, while the Touring additionally features ventilated front seats, as well as a manually adjustable thigh-support extender for the driver’s seat.

Subaru will offer the MY22 Outback AWD range with a choice six paint colours including Crystal White Pearl, Ice Silver Metallic, Autumn Green Metallic, Crimson Red Pearl, Sapphire Blue Pearl and Magnetite Grey Metallic.

“Australians have really responded to the new generation Outback since its launch early this year and we have seen greater numbers of owners joining the Outback family,” Mr Read added.

“With additional spec and special edition arriving for 2022 we are confident Outback will continue to meet the needs of Subaru buyers.”

The Subaru Outback continues to be one of the best-selling cars in its class (Large SUV under $70k). With year-to-date sales of 9669 units, the Outback ranks third behind the strong-selling Toyota LandCruiser Prado (19,095 unit sales) and Isuzu MU-X (9833 units).

The Outback has outsold popular rivals including the Toyota Kluger (8654 units), Ford Everest (7727 units) and Mitsubishi Pajero Sport (6749 units).
