RENAULT’s limited-edition RS 275 Trophy will join the Megane RS hot-hatch line-up on September 30 from $52,990 plus on-road costs, bringing more power, a titanium exhaust system and new livery.
In June the facelifted Megane RS 265 arrived in Australia and this limited version sees the French car-maker’s in-house performance division – Renault Sport – extract another 6kW from the 2.0-litre turbo petrol four-cylinder engine for 201kW.
Torque remains the same at 360Nm and Renault claims unchanged fuel consumption of 7.5 litres per 100km.
The RS 275 Trophy shares the RS265’s Cup chassis and has a limited edition slip differential, while an Akrapovic titanium exhaust system and carbon tail-pipes reduces weight and gives the engine note a fiercer bark.
Trophy decals across the rear and door, plus a Platinum Grey F1 style front splitter distinguish the limited edition on the outside.
The cabin features numbered door-sills, leather and Alcantara Recaro bucket seats with red stitching, Zamac gear knob lever, Alcantara steering wheel and handbrake bellow.
Renault Australia managing director Justin Hocevar said the RS 275 Trophy joins a long line of special editions such as the Trophy 8:08 in 2011 and Red Bull Racing versions in 2012 and 2013.
“Renault Sport has always been known for its exceptional limited editions and the new Megane R.S. 275 Trophy is a fitting addition to the range,” he said.
“Created to commemorate our recent front-wheel-drive lap record of the notorious Nurburgring, the Megane R.S. 275 Trophy brings all the expertise of Renault Sport to life in an exciting and engaging package.
“As soon as this vehicle was launched globally we saw customers wanting to place a deposit to secure one in Australia.”
Only 100 of the cars will go on sale in Australia and while it is available the RS 275 Trophy will sit at the top of the Megan RS range which kicks off at $43,990 for the RS 265 Cup and steps up to the RS 265 Cup Premium at $47,990.
A spokesperson for Renault Australia told GoAuto that another limited edition variant – the RS 275 Trophy R Nurburgring record-holder – will arrive in December, with just 50 examples available and a likely price of about $65,000, plus on-roads.
