Paris show: Porsche releases entry-level Macan pricing

Updated Porsche Macan medium SUV to start from $81,400 plus ORCs, more pricing later

3 Oct 2018

PORSCHE Australia has released initial pricing for its Macan medium SUV following its public debut at the Paris motor show, with the entry-level variant to start from $81,400 plus on-road costs – $1300 dearer than the outgoing version.
Available for order now, the new Macan debuts an updated version of its 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine, increased standard spec, and improvements to tech and ride quality.
Pricing for the rest of the range – including the more potent S, GTS and Turbo – will be revealed at a later date.
Retaining many of its previous styling cues, the new Macan debuts a 3D LED light panel in the tail-lights, while LED headlights are standard. Adaptive LED headlights are available as an option.
New-design 19-inch alloy wheels are fitted as standard, while the front bumper has been redesigned to appear wider. Four new exterior paint hues will be available – Mamba Green metallic, Dolomite Silver metallic, Miami Blue and Crayon.
Porsche has made some changes to the 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine underpinning the entry-level Macan, improving combustion chamber geometry, but power output is unchanged from the existing 185kW/370Nm version. It remains to be seen whether fuel consumption has improved from the official 7.4 litres per 100km figure.
Tweaks to the Macan’s chassis have resulted in greater ride comfort, according to Porsche, while newly developed tyres help improve performance and handling.
Improvements have been made to the Porsche Communication Management infotainment system, which has increased in size from 7.2 inches to 10.9 inches to match that in the Cayenne and Panamera.
The system is able to be modified to suit user preferences, and comes with sat-nav, connected services and Apple CarPlay as standard.
Other new standard features include 14-way adjustable comfort seats with memory function, auto-dimming interior and exterior mirrors, and a surround-view monitor.
Additions to the options list include a GT sports steering wheel inspired by the 911, heated windshield, Offroad precision app, Compass display, an air ioniser and up to 21-inch alloys.
Through the first three quarters of the year, Porsche has sold 1663 examples of the Macan, down 17.5 per cent over the same period last year.
It trails the leaders in the premium mid-size SUV segment including the Mercedes-Benz GLC (4678), BMW X3 (3991), Lexus NX (2948) and Audi Q5 (2883).
