Mercedes lobs X-Class V6 pricing

V6-powered Mercedes-Benz X-Class to be most expensive mid-size-pick-up in Aus

1 Aug 2018

MERCEDES-BENZ Vans Australia has released pricing for its two-variant V6 X-Class range, which will arrive in local showrooms in December priced from $73,270 plus on-road costs for the X350d Progressive.

The top-spec Power variant will ask $79,415, making it more expensive than the Ford Ranger Raptor ($74,990) and the Volkswagen Amarok V6 Ultimate ($68,490).

Eschewing the Nissan-sourced 2.3-litre turbo-diesel engine and seven-speed auto from the four-cylinder versions, the X350d gains an in-house 3.0-litre turbo-diesel V6 outputting 190kW/550Nm, mated to a seven-speed 7G-Tronic automatic.

The powertrain upgrade has resulted in a price increase of $15,470 for the equivalent four-cylinder Progressive, while the Power V6 is $14,915 dearer. Power output is up 50kW/100Nm over the X250d.

Employing a full-time 4Matic all-wheel-drive system, the X350d can complete the zero to 100km/h sprint in 7.5 seconds, while sipping 9.0 litres of fuel per 100km and emitting 137 grams of CO2 per km.

4Matic distributes torque 40:60 front/rear, which can change to 30:70 in 4H mode or an even 50:50 when engaging low range.

Five driving modes will be available that tweak the engine and transmission response, including Comfort, Eco, Sport, Offroad and Manual, the latter of which is controlled by steering wheel-mounted paddle shifters.

Standard specification mirrors the equivalent four-cylinder versions, with the exception of Keyless Go, dual-zone climate control and 18-inch five-spoke alloys on the Progressive, and aluminium dash trim, black roof liner and 19-inch six-spoke hoops on the Power.

Safety features include seven airbags, front and rear vented disc brakes, active lane-keep assist, autonomous emergency braking, trailer sway control, tyre pressure monitor and a reversing camera. Power variants upgrade to a surround view monitor.

The X350d is distinguished by a ‘V6 Turbo’ badge on the front flanks, and will be available with a number of optional extras and accessories including leather seats, sports bars, hard tray cover, canopy, stowage box, bedliner, lead-securing rails and underguard protection.

Mercedes-Benz Vans has also told GoAuto that a factory bullbar is in the works, but is still in development stages.

Since launching locally in April, Mercedes-Benz Vans Australia has sold 738 examples of the X-Class, but the brand expects the V6 version to outpace its four-cylinder siblings.
