Mahindra slashes XUV700 price by $10K

MAHINDRA Australia has sharpened its attack on the value end of the new-car market, slashing as much as $10,000 from the driveaway price of its midsize XUV700 to make the Indian-built model comfortably Australia’s cheapest new seven-seat SUV.

Effective from September 1, the XUV700 AX7 is available from $29,990 d/a, representing a $10,000 saving against its regular $39,990 price, while the better-equipped AX7L drops $9000 from $42,990 to $33,990 d/a (see pricing table below).

The latest promotion substantially deepens the discounts reported by GoAuto in July, when Mahindra repositioned the XUV700 AX7L at $37,990 d/a in an effort to reclaim the title of Australia’s cheapest seven-seater.

At the time, the offer placed it narrowly below the Chery Tiggo 8 Pro Max Urban.

Just six weeks later, Mahindra has widened that gap dramatically.

The XUV700 AX7 now sits $9000 below the $38,990 drive-away Chery Tiggo 8 Pro Max Urban, while also substantially undercutting entry seven-seat versions of mainstream rivals including the Nissan X-Trail and Mitsubishi Outlander, which start above $41,000 and $42,000 respectively before on-road costs.

Mahindra Australia describes the latest campaign as its largest instant retail offer to date and says the reductions are aimed squarely at families contending with ongoing cost-of-living pressures.

The manufacturer’s current offer page confirms the $10,000 AX7 and $9000 AX7L rebates run until September 30, 2026.

It marks a significant shift for a model that itself underwent a $3000 price increase in March 2025, when the AX7 moved to $39,990 d/a and AX7L to $42,990 d/a following equipment and interior upgrades. Even at those prices, Mahindra remained among the least expensive ways into a three-row SUV.

Indeed, when the XUV700 first arrived locally in 2023 it was priced from $36,990 d/a for the AX7 and $39,990 for the AX7L and immediately claimed the title of Australia’s cheapest three-row SUV.

The new September offer therefore places the AX7 $7000 below its original 2023 launch price, despite subsequent specification upgrades.

Both XUV700 variants retain a turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol engine producing 149kW and 380Nm, driving the front wheels through a six-speed automatic transmission. Mahindra quotes combined fuel consumption of 8.3 litres per 100km.

Importantly, the lower promotional pricing has not been accompanied by an equipment reduction.

The AX7 includes seven seats, a panoramic sunroof, 18-inch alloy wheels, twin 10.25-inch displays for infotainment and instrumentation, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, and a broad suite of advanced driver assistance systems.

Safety equipment includes adaptive cruise control, autonomous emergency braking, lane-keep assistance and traffic-sign recognition.

Stepping up to the AX7L adds ventilated front seats, a 360-degree surround-view camera, blind-view monitoring, an additional knee airbag and a 12-speaker premium audio system.

That equipment level has long been one of the XUV700’s key selling points, with GoAuto previously noting the model combines unusually strong passenger and cargo accommodation with competitive ride comfort, performance and value.

The latest cuts also arrive as competition among value-focused seven-seat SUVs intensifies, particularly from Chinese brands.

Chery’s Tiggo 8 Pro Max remains priced from $38,990 d/a, meaning an XUV700 AX7 buyer now retains almost $9000 compared with its most obvious price rival before accounting for any additional incentives.

Mahindra backs the XUV700 with a seven-year/150,000km warranty and associated roadside-assistance provisions.
