HOLDEN is hoping to reignite sales of its Colorado workhorse by reintroducing the LSX four-wheel-drive crew cab pick-up and cab chassis variants that will be limited to just 1000 examples.

The LSX is based on the LS and returns to Holden showrooms this month after the company first launched the limited variant back in 2015.

Holden is offering the LSX in cab chassis and crew cab pick-up body styles, and it gains a number of additional features over and above the LS.

Pricing is $51,945 plus on-road costs for the six-speed manual 4x4 crew cab pick-up, a $6955 increase over the regular LS, while the crew cab chassis checks in at $50,055, a $6565 premium.

However, Holden is offering the pick-up with driveaway pricing of $44,990, which matches the recommended retail price of the LS.

Opting for the six-speed automatic transmission adds $2200 to either variant.

The LSX crew cab pick-up gains black-out-inspired styling flourishes, including 18-inch black alloy wheels, black fender flares and grille, a matte-black extended sports bar, a matte-black Colorado-branded sports bar plate, all-terrain tyres, a soft tonneau and a rear Colorado decal.

Given the cab chassis lacks a tub, it only gains the black 18-inch alloys, all-terrain tyres, black fender flares and a genuine Holden tray made from heavy-duty aluminium.

The LSX is powered by the same 147kW/440Nm 2.8-litre four-cylinder turbo-diesel engine as the rest of the Colorado range, and it features a 3.5-tonne towing capacity and a shift-on-the-fly 4WD system.

As previously reported, any Colorado purchased before the end of March will be offered with a five-year warranty, five years or roadside assist and three years of free scheduled servicing.

The LSX is on sale from Monday March 12 and 800 examples of the pick-up will be offered, while the cab chassis is restricted to 200 units.

Holden executive director of marketing Mark Harland said the LSX will have visual appeal thanks to the added styling flourishes.

“We know a lot of our Colorado customers want to make their truck stand out from the crowd, and accessories are a great way to do that,” he said.

“Colorado LSX combines some of our most striking and impactful accessories – inspired by the 2016 Colorado Xtreme concept car – while maintaining exceptional customer value.” Colorado sales took a hit last month, with the 4x2 finding 142 homes, a 22.4 per cent slump, while Holden recorded 897 sales of the more popular 4x4, but this represented an 18.3 per cent dip.

Year-to-date sales of the 4x4 are down by 11 per cent to 2164 units, leaving the Colorado in fifth place after two months of 2018 sales behind the Toyota HiLux (6137), Ford Ranger (5990), Mitsubishi Triton (2947) and the resurgent Nissan Navara (2783).
