New models - Genesis - GV70

Genesis prices GV70 from $66,400 and adds gear

Almost here: The GV70 is due to touch down in Australia at the start of the new financial year, just behind the G70 sedan.

Flagship Genesis GV70 medium SUV undercuts base-model GV80 on price, here in July

21 May 2021

TWO months after releasing the key specification details, Genesis Motors Australia has revealed the local pricing of its inbound GV70 medium SUV with the premium family hauler set to start from $66,400 plus on-road costs when it arrives here in July.

Three different powertrain options will be offered in Australia across four different variants with all of them flaunting the same level of standard kit.

Opening the range is the 2.5T which will check into local showrooms at the previously mentioned $66,400 plus on-roads, while an all-wheel-drive version will be able to be had from $68,800.

For an extra $3000 ($71,800), customers will be able to opt for an all-wheel-drive 2.2-litre turbo-diesel mill – labelled the 2.2D AWD – and developing a healthy 154kW/440Nm.

At the top of the range meanwhile lays the $83,400 ‘3.5T AWD Sport’ which as its nameplate suggests, is powered by the Hyundai Group’s 279kW/530Nm twin-turbocharged 3.5-litre V6.

Transmission duties in all variants comes courtesy of the Group’s equally familiar eight-speed automatic with drive being sent to all four wheels aside from the base 2.5T which channels its power to the rears only.

As previously reported by GoAuto back in March, all Australia-bound GV70s will touch down full of standard gear with some of the highlights including a leather interior, 14.5-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, satellite navigation with live traffic updates and DAB+ digital radio, wireless phone charging, dual-zone climate control, a nine-speaker sound system, adjustable ambient lighting, 12-way power adjustable front seats with heating and cooling functions, reclining and split-folding rear seats, remote start, powered tailgate and a panoramic sunroof.

Since then however the range has been gifted a few extra goodies that were previously to be included as part of the optional Luxury Package, those being dual-memory function for the driver’s seat, power adjustable steering column, fingerprint authentication system and exterior puddle lamps with the Genesis logo.

Those still chasing more gear for their GV70 will be able to opt for the previously reported Sport Line ($4500) and/or Luxury ($11,000) packages with the former adding a Sport Line body kit with blacked out features, 19-inch Sport Line alloy wheels, sports brake package, large-calibre dual exhaust finishers, Sport+ drive mode, Nappa Leather and suede appointed sport seats, suede headlining and pillars, sport steering wheel, sport alloy pedals, aluminium trim, and sport gauges for oil temperature, torque and turbo boost.

It is worth noting the Sport Line pack is included as standard on the range-topping 3.5T AWD Sport given its obviously sportier pretensions – ‘Sport’ is included in its name, not to mention the punchier engine.

Other sports-minded features exclusive to the flagship includes a limited-slip differential and Genesis’ Road-Preview adaptive electronic suspension.

The Luxury Package meanwhile adds an intelligent front-lighting system, rear privacy glass, quilted Nappa leather-appointed seats, suede headlining and pillars, a 12.3-inch digital instrument display, head-up display, 1050W 16-speaker Lexicon by Harman audio system, remote smart parking assist, 18-way power adjustable driver’s seat with ergo motion massage function, passenger seat walk-in switch, heated steering wheel and second-row seats as well as three-zone climate control.

Just like the standard equipment list, the GV70’s safety suite boasts almost more active and passive safety features than you could poke a stick at.

Eight airbags (including centre side), an active bonnet, blind-spot collision avoidance-assist, a blind-spot view monitor, driver attention warning, forward collision-avoidance assist, high beam assist, intelligent speed limit assist, lane following assist, lane keeping assist, multi collision brake, rear cross-traffic collision avoidance-assist, rear occupant warning, safe exit assist, adaptive cruise control, surround-view monitor and trailer stability assist are all included straight out of the box on all variants.

Those who opt for the Luxury Package will also score forward attention warning and rear parking collision-avoidance assist.

When the GV70 arrives, it will slot straight into the line-up as a high-riding alternative to the inbound G70 sedan and Shooting Brake as well as a smaller sibling to the large-sized GV80, something Genesis Motors Australia CEO Jun Heo was particularly looking forward to.

“We are delighted to announce the introduction of the brand new GV70, as our second Genesis SUV in Australia,” he said.

“The first-ever GV70 applies the Genesis Athletic Elegance design philosophy to the medium SUV while showcasing an array of advanced safety and technology, all to deliver unprecedented luxury.”

The premium Korean brand has had a very successful year so far in 2021, shifting 126 units across the first five months, marking a 245.9 per cent sale improvement year on year.
