BMW launches new 1, 2 and 3 Series Sport Collection

Sport Line package joins new feature bundle on selected BMW 1, 2 and 3 Series variants

16 Feb 2022

BMW has introduced a new Sports Collection that comprises selected 1, 2 and 3 Series variants.

The offering coincides with the arrival of the Sport Line trim package on the Bavarian marque’s latest generation 1 Series, 2 Series Gran Coupe and 3 Series models, and will offer what the brand says is a way for “customers to benefit from the outstanding performance and efficiency of each model at a revised price point”.

The line-up begins with the 118i Sport priced from $48,900 drive-away. The model includes BMW’s Sport Line trim package with Live Cockpit Professional, Connected Package Professional and Intelligent Personal Assistant aids, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, Driving and Parking Assistant technology, sports seats, 17-inch alloy wheels and black paint finish.

The same feature list is offered on BMW’s 218i Gran Coupe Sport Collection, which is available from $53,900 drive-away, and on 320i and 330e Sport Collection variants, the latter with 18-inch alloy wheels and priced from $69,900 drive-away and $77,900 plus on-road costs respectively.

All variants are slated for arrival in local showrooms by the end of Q1, 2022.

BMW (F40-series) 118i Sport Collection models continue to be powered by the group’s 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine familiar to selected BMW and MINI models. The front-wheel drive model’s three-cylinder powerplant produces 103kW at 6500rpm and 220Nm between 1480-4200rpm and is paired with a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.

BMW claims a 0-100km/h acceleration time of 8.5 seconds for the model, which has a claimed combined-cycle fuel economy figure of 5.3 litres per 100km.

The F44-series 218i Gran Coupe Sport Collection has an identical drivetrain to its 118i stablemate, but with claimed 0-100km/h acceleration time of 8.7 seconds and a stated combined-cycle fuel consumption of 5.2 litres per 100km.

Meanwhile, for the (G20-series) 320i Sport Collection, we find a 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine producing 135kW at 6500rpm and 300Nm between 1350-4000rpm. The rear-wheel drive model features and eight-speed automatic transmission and can accelerate from standstill to 100km/h in 7.1 seconds. The ADR combined cycle fuel figure for the sedan is just 6.3 litres per 100km.

Finally, the 330e Sport Collection combines the 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine of the 320i with an electric motor to offer a combined system output figure of 215kW and 420Nm. The model is capable of sprinting to 100km/h in 5.9 seconds and offers a combined cycle fuel economy figure of 2.1 litres per 100km.

The 330e Sport Collection features a 12kWh battery pack set underneath the rear seats and claims an all-electric driving range of up to 35km.

“The Sport Line slots in beneath the M Sport line (which has been the standard package on the 1-,2- and 3-Series models) to make those models more accessible to prospective buyers,” BMW Group Australia’s Product and Business Communications Manager Nick Raman told GoAuto. “All units are finished in Black to create consistency and uniformity in the Sport Collection.”
