Jeep is giving CES 2020 attendees a sneak peek at upcoming 4xe capabilities

7 Jan 2020

JEEP has taken its first step in achieving its 2022 goal of offering electric versions of all its models by showcasing the new electric Wrangler, Renegade and Compass off-roaders at the Consumer Electronics Show ahead of their official debuts at the Geneva, New York and Beijing auto shows.

Dubbed 4xe, the new electric models will brandish unique ‘Jeep 4xe’ badges with Jeep promising “next level” performance, 4x4 capability and driver confidence thanks to the drastically increased and immediately available torque.

The reveal and inevitable debuts of the new models closely follow the debut of the plug-in hybrid Renegade and Compass at last year’s Geneva motor show.

Despite the 4xe models being showcased at the event, no official details have been revealed – that will have to wait until the respective debuts later this year – though CES attendees are being treated to an exclusive virtual taster of what is to come.

Using a Wrangler Rubicon mounted on four hydraulic cylinders, participants are able to digitally navigate their way around the infamous Hell’s Revenge trail in Moab, Utah – a US Jeep off-roading hotspot.

As drivers make their way along the trail, the hydraulic cylinders replicate the bumps and the car’s reactions as it negotiates obstacles thanks to real life wheel position data recordings taken from the trail.

While no photos have been released yet, drivers will score an extra sneak peek inside what Jeep is calling its most advanced Wrangler via the driver’s point of view setting of the experience.

At the end of CES 2020 and in the lead up to the Wrangler 4xe’s official debut, the VR test drive experience will make its way around the world to various events and shows with more off-road trails being added along the way.

FCA Australia couldn’t confirm which 4xe model would be debuted at which show – Geneva, New York or Beijing.
