Volvo unveils next month's new XC70 and heralds upgrades for almost all passenger models

11 Oct 2007

VOLVO used the Australian International Motor Show to reveal the new-generation XC70 AWD station wagon, following its world debut at the Geneva motor show in March. An off-road derivative of the V70, the XC will be offered from launch in November with both petrol and diesel power – as a 3.2 petrol, priced from $58,950, and D5 diesel, from $60,950.

The latter is expected to account for 60 per cent of the sales mix. The 3.2 is a natural-breathing straight-six that produces 175kW and 320Nm, while the D5 is a 2.4-litre five-cylinder turbo-diesel unit that musters 138kW and 400Nm. Both are fitted standard with a six-speed automatic gearbox. (No manual will be offered.) Full Australian-spec details are still to be released, but a high level of comfort, convenience and safety features will be onboard. Among them will be Volvo’s second-generation child booster cushion. Volvo Car Australia also announced MY08 variant changes to the S40, V50, C30 and C70.
