TOYOTA has released more images of its eighth-generation HiLux ute, showcasing the single-cab and extra-cab variants which will join the previously revealed double-cab on Australian soil this October.

In addition to the people-lugging dual-cab version revealed at the global debut last week, the Japanese car-maker will offer a two-seater single-cab option and the space-boosted extra-cab version with more storage behind the front row.

The single-cab version will also go on sale as a bare cab-chassis for retrofitting coach-built bodies and specialised equipment applications, but images of the bareback HiLux have not yet been provided.

Toyota is not detailing how the range will be split between the various cabin styles, but has said the range will extend to 31 variants compared to the 23 offered by the outgoing HiLux.

Three levels of specification will be offered ranging from the tradesman-targeting Workmate, through to the better equipped SR, and up to the flagship SR5.

The 2015 version will also see the arrival of a new Hi-Rider option which offers the aesthetics of a jacked-up off-road HiLux, but with the reduced cost and increased fuel economy of a rear-wheel drive in place of two driven axles.

All other versions will be available with two or four-wheel drive and, depending on the variant, a selection of engines including a 2.8- and a 2.4-litre four-cylinder diesel engine with 450Nm and 400Nm of torque respectively.

For those wanting a spark-ignition option, Toyota offers the 2.7-litre naturally aspirated four-cylinder, or a silkier 3.0-litre V6. As with the seventh-gen car, customers have the choice of a six-speed automatic transmission, or a manual with the same number of ratios.

More details are expected from Toyota closer to the new HiLux range's official on-sale date later this year.
