Geneva show: Pininfarina teases 2020 hypercar

Pininfarina to build 150 examples of PF0 hypercar following Pebble Beach showing

17 Aug 2018

ITALIAN design house Pininfarina has announced it will build just 150 examples of its all-electric PF0 hypercar, with it to show a design concept of the vehicle to prospective customers at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance later this month.
Set for a public reveal at the 2019 Geneva motor show in March, the PF0 will be the first vehicle solely branded under the Pininfarina name when customer deliveries start from 2020 onwards.
Having previously released teaser images of the PF0’s exterior, Pininfarina has shown sketches of the car’s futuristic interior, which shows a two-seat cabin with a sports steering wheel and digital instrument cluster.
The PF0 sports an angular dashboard that shapes around the driver, a flat-top and -bottom steering wheel with carbon-fibre trim, configurable digital displays either side of the steering wheel, buttons to select the gear and driving mode, stitched leather and carbon-fibre dashboard trim, and what looks to be  a Burmester sound system.
Occupants sits in sports bucket seats upholstered in white leather, which also runs across the upper door trim.
As previously reported, the exterior teasers suggest a classical supercar silhouette with muscular front and rear haunches, aggressive bodywork and a low, long and sleek profile.
The body will be created from carbon-fibre, with the brand saying “extreme levels of technology and functional design” will be used on the PF0.
Employing an all-electric powertrain, Pininfarina claims the PF0 will be capable of completing the zero to 100km/h sprint in under two seconds, which would undercut the likes of the Bugatti Chiron, Koenigsegg Agera and Porsche 911 GT2 RS.
It is capable of a top speed of over 400km/h and will have a potential driving range of over 300 miles (482km).
No concrete details have been released on what sort of motor/battery combination will be used.
The Pininfarina design studio is in the final stages of developing the PF0’s design, with all 150 examples to be hand-crafted in Turin, Italy. The brand says the design draws inspiration from previous Pininfarina-penned models such as the Cisitalia, Modulo and Sintesi.
Automobili Pininfarina CEO Michael Perschke said the development of a standalone vehicle is a huge occasion for the brand.
“Our presence in Monterey is an inspiring chapter in the story of realising Battista Farina’s long-held dream: one day there will be beautiful cars solely branded Pininfarina,” he said.
“These special VIP previews mean that future PF0 owners, most of whom will undoubtedly own numerous modern and historic classics, have an opportunity right now to be part of the birth of the company and their hypercar.”
Mahindra & Mahindra chairman Anand Mahindra will attend the private viewing, as the Indian conglomerate now owns the Italian brand.
