Kia adds hatch features to Cerato sedan and reduces Rondo people-mover model range

25 Oct 2010

KIA buyers will have an upgraded Cerato sedan to consider from January, in addition to the new Cerato Hatchback launched at the Sydney motor show two weeks ago.

The upgraded Cerato sedan – which was first launched here two years ago – features changes introduced on the hatchback, including six-speed transmissions, local suspension tune, electric power steering, folding key and Bluetooth.

The Rondo 7 people-mover that was first launched here in April 2008 also receives upgrades, including a new ‘Schreyer’ grille reflecting Kia’s new corporate style, Bluetooth, folding remote key fob, chrome exhaust tip, six airbags and ESP across the range.

Kia has reduced the MY2011 Rondo 7 range from three models to two, with the S replacing the LX and SLi replacing both EX and EX-L.

Although Rondo 7 sales expectations have not been met – and are down 35.9 per cent this year – Kia Motor Australia senior product manager Nick Reid said the company was constrained by supply because the factory that produces it also produces the new Sportage, which is in high demand.

“Because we’ve had quite restricted supply – because Rondo is built on the same line as Sportage – we’ve decided to bring down the range from three to two trim levels, and introduce the new model designations,” he said.
