JAGUAR Australia has confirmed its incoming second-generation XF Sportbrake – the first to be offered in the country – will land in local showrooms in December with three engine options spread across three variants.

Although exact pricing and specification is yet to be revealed, Jaguar is offering its big-booted XF Sportbrake in R-Sport, S and First Edition guises, with a mix of two diesel and one petrol powerplant all paired to an eight-speed ZF automatic transmission sending power to the rear wheels.

The least-powerful in the line-up will utilise a 132kW/430Nm 2.0-litre turbo-diesel four-cylinder, enabling a zero to 100km/h sprint time of 8.8 seconds and returning a fuel economy figure of 4.8 litres per 100km.

The sole petrol-powered version will be underpinned by a new-to-Jaguar 184kW/365Nm 2.0-litre Ingenium four-cylinder engine – which made its debut in the Range Rover Velar – cutting the 0-100km/h sprint time to 7.1s and raising fuel consumption up to 6.8L/100km.

Flagship versions at launch will leverage a 3.0-litre twin-turbo diesel V6, which produces 221kW of power and 700Nm of torque, for a 0-100km/h time of 6.6s and a 5.9L.100km fuel consumption figure.

Sharing nearly identical physical dimensions to its four-door sibling, the XF Sportbrake measures just 1mm longer at 4955mm and 39mm taller at 1496mm to increase volume by 60 litres to 565L with the rear seats in place.

With the split-fold 40:20:40 rear seats stowed, storage capacity expands to 1700L.

The XF sedan and Sportbrake both measure 1987mm wide and feature 2960mm wheelbases.

To accommodate the extra load in the boot, Jaguar has fitted the XF Sportbrake with self-levelling air suspension in rear, while retaining the double wishbone set-up for the front.

The British premium brand is promising near 50:50 weight distribution in its new model, and says the XF Sportbrake will deliver “sportscar-inspired character with agile handling and dynamic responses”.

Jaguar’s drive mode select Configurable Dynamics system is also an option, which adjusts throttle response, steering and transmission settings, as is adaptive dampers for increased road holding.

Integrated roof rails on the XF Sportbrake can handle loads up to 100kg, while the gesture-controlled, power-operated rear tailgate can be programmed to only open to a certain height.

Standard fare inside includes an 8.0-inch central touchscreen with satellite navigation and four-zone climate control system, while buyers can also opt for a 12.3-inch instrument cluster, 10.0-inch infotainment unit, 20-way electronically adjustable seats and soft-close doors.

Panoramic sunroof-equipped models can also be optioned with a gesture-controlled sunblind, which lets owners wave backwards and forwards behind the rear-view mirror to operate.

The XF Sportbrake will also come with Jaguar’s Activity Key – a water- and shock-proof rubberised wristband that the brand is touting will “support active lifestyles by allowing owners to lock their conventional key fob inside the vehicle while they enjoy outdoor pursuits and activities”.

Safety equipment includes Jaguar’s All Surface Progress Control (ASPC) – which allows semi-autonomous driving up to 30km/h in low-grip conditions – and Adaptive Surface Response (AdSR) – a system which automatically adjusts chassis settings when it detects the wheels have entered a different surface.

Autonomous emergency braking, lane departure warning and lane keep assist will also be available on the XF Sportbrake, as well as adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring with reverse traffic detection, park assist and a surround-view camera.
