FORD has released a teaser image on its social media pages, which confirms its facelifted swansong Falcon will follow the global styling trend typical of other current Ford models.

The close-up shot shows a small section of radiator grille, which appears to mimic the trapezoidal shape seen on on the noses of many other models in the Blue Oval range – a styling signature intended to appeal to a global audience.

A portion of headlight is also revealed, showing similar angles and a chrome-rimmed eyeball-like prism like the one found on the popular Territory SUV front-end.

The image is accompanied by the hashtags #2014Falcon and #Official, implying this is the final design for the Falcon's front end, which Ford's local design chief Joel Piaskowski has been tinkering with for some time.

Responses to the photograph have been generally positive with followers of Ford's social media commenting on the similarity to the US model Fusion and its European equivalent, the Mondeo.

Commenters were also quick to point out the new model's adherence to growing Ford global styling trends – browse our gallery to compare.

The 'FH' will be the last generation of the iconic sedan, which will come to an end when Ford ceases all production on Australian soil in October 2016.

The final fling Falcon is expected to be rolled out to Ford showrooms in about December this year, which would give the car just two years to find homes.

Ford's Territory is also due a styling makeover before the manufacturing outfit shuts up shop, and is expected to have its sheets pulled off at the same time as the fresh-faced Falcon.

A full reveal of the new-look Falcon is expected within the coming months.
