Ford has revealed a bullocking new 4.4-litre turbo-diesel V8 for its new F-150

23 Apr 2008

FORD has developed a new 4.4-litre V8 turbo-diesel engine for instalment in a range of SUVs and commercial vehicles, starting with its next-generation F-150 pick-up and Expedition SUV due in 2010.

Details and photographs of the engine, which was reportedly developed in-house, have emerged on the internet after it was shown at a dealer show in Las Vegas earlier this month.

A placard alongside the engine revealed that the big V8 oil-burner would offer a number of improvements over the current 5.4-litre petrol engine, including nine per cent more power, 15 per cent more torque, “similar” standing-start acceleration and a 20 per cent improvement in fuel economy.

It also highlighted the environmental benefits that will flow from the use of a urea injection system.
