Dodge has entered the medium seven-seat SUV market with a people mover. While that sounds confusing, it just shows how diverse the new-car market is.

The Journey is similar in size and stature as the Territory and Kluger - but only comes in front-wheel drive and has been relegated to the people mover segment in the VFACTS car sales tally.

Indeed Dodge would like to compare the Journey with the medium SUVs and does so knowing its product has a $5000 price advantage when compared with 2WD Territory or Kluger seven-seaters.

The Journey is based on the Avenger platform and shares the Avenger’s petrol V6 engine and automatic transmission.

The Dodge’s 2.7-litre V6 develops 136kW of power at 5500rpm and 256Nm of torque at 4000rpm, and is standard with a six-speed automatic transmission.

The 2.0-litre CRD turbo-diesel produces 103kW of power at 4000rpm and 310Nm of torque at 1750-2500rpmThe turbo-diesel, only available in the R/T specification grade, will be available uniquely with a new Chrysler-Getrag six-speed double-clutch automated manual transmission.
