TWIN front airbags are standard on the R. Anti-lock brakes are part of the excellent braking package. Doors are fitted with intrusion beams, plus special hip pads to help protect passengers in a side impact. Type R has a rigid, monocoque body. The indicator lights in the front bumper are designed to move back without damage in a minor accident. Front bumpers are designed to absorb impacts up to 8km/h.
Did you know?At 1087kg, the Type R is 27kg lighter than the VTi-R it replaced. To achieve the weight loss, Honda deleted creature comforts such as cruise control and a sunroof, used a thinner windscreen and a plastic spare tyre lid, removed the floor melt sheet, dashboard insulator and transmission and driveshaft dampers, and used a lighter flywheel, intake manifold and exhaust
