Ford concept reveals twin-turbo direction injection V6

FORD used the Detroit show this week to reveal a stunning new concept car for its Lincoln brand, signalling a new design ethos for the next generation of prestige North American vehicles, as well as a new engine family.

The latter is known as "TwinForce" and in the MKR it turns out in 3.5-litre twin-turbo direct-injection V6 guise, delivering an impressive 309kW and 542Nm. It can also run on E85 ethanol.

Ford claims the MKR was designed to deliver "guilt-free" luxury. Materials, including chrome-free leather and renewable resources such as a re-engineered oak instrument panel, mohair carpet and soy seat foam, mean the car is not only luxurious but also environmentally friendly.

Design elements from the vehicle, including the concept's double-wing grille inspired by the 1941 Lincoln Continental Cabriolet, are expected to appear on future production Lincolns.

The split grille is designed to resemble the bow of a boat cutting through the water.

Ford also showed off the facelifted 500 sedan, which gains a new 3.5-litre V6, as well as a facelift of the previous-generation Focus, which is built in Mexico for the US market.

The redesigned Escape compact SUV was also on display.
