Audi / TT / Roadster range

2007 Audi TT Roadster range Car Review

Overview

THE first TT Roadster was a car that in design terms lost nothing in the translation from coupe to convertible, and the new roadster also upholds the simple, fluid style of its coupe sibling.

Even though soft-tops are often all about style, this one is an accomplished performer too, with a balanced, lightweight body powered by an energetic four-cylinder engine or smooth V6.

Audi has maintained open-top tradition with its fabric roof, claiming a folding steel roof was too heavy and cumbersome.

For the first time in the Roadster, there's also a V6 quattro variant.

Despite only being available as an automatic, for a premium open-top car, the TT Roadster not only looks good - but performs and handles well too.

The TT Roadster arrived in Australia in May 2000 - nearly a year after the TT Coupe.

It was sold in only one specification: a 165kW/280Nm quattro six-speed manual, for $92,900.

In February 2003, the TT Roadster was updated with a new grille and wheels and the update also served as the introduction point for a new Roadster model, the $81,900 132kW 1.8T Tiptronic.

In November 2005, the 1.8T’s engine output was increased to 140kW and the price dropped to $78,500 while the 165kW quattro manual was discontinued, leaving the 1.8T Roadster to sell through to March 2006.
