Jaguar introduces its high-performance XFR with a new supercharged V8

JAGUAR introduced its highly-anticipated XFR performance model at the Detroit auto show, with a 385kW supercharged V8 engine that launches the sports saloon to 100km/h in just 4.7 seconds.

Although slightly slower than the V10-engined BMW M5, the Jag accounts for the Mercedes-Benz 6.2-litre "atmo" V8-engined E63 AMG in the sprint test.

While the hot version of Jaguar’s mid-sized four-door saloon grabbed most attention at the Detroit show, Jaguar also presented revised versions of the regular XF and the latest iteration of the two-door XKR sportscar.

Standard versions of the XF now come with either a naturally aspirated version of the 5.0-litre V8 rated at 291kW (72kW more than the outgoing 4.2) or a new 3.0-litre V6 twin-turbocharged diesel that comes in two power outputs – 181kW/500Nm or 208kW/600Nm.

As well as lifting performance, the new XFR model is kept under control with an electronically controlled rear differential and continuously variable damping, and is identified by a revised bumper with big lower air intakes, sill extensions, bonnet louvres and grilles, four tail-pipes, a boot-lid spoiler and unique 20-inch alloy wheels.
