Overview

JUST a decade ago only four BMW model lines existed – 3, 5, 7 and Z3.

But by the end of 2000 in came the X5 and everything changed.

Today the F07 5 Series Gran Turismo is the latest in a seemingly never-ending stream of niche cars from the Bavarian car-maker intent on taking over the luxury car universe.

But unlike some other BMWs of late, the GT’s appeal is immediately obvious, since the company’s engineers have created a luxury crossover without having to rely on a hefty SUV base (or styling).

The result is a capable – if expensive – grand tourer that lives up to its name.
