DRIVER and passenger front and side airbags are standard. Pyrotechnic buckle pretensioners and webbing clamps hold front seat passengers firmly in place in an accident. The Statesman allows progressive collapse under impact to better dissipate crash energy. The side-impact structure concentrates on minimising head injury.

Holden claims the front structure design delivers improved crash energy management. Reinforcements to the upper section of B-pillar are the result of investigations into "real world" crashes. If the seatbelt pretensioners are activated, the on-board computer turns the engine and fuel pump off, unlocks the doors and turns the dome lamp on. A first-aid kit and warning triangle are located in the rear seat backrest.
