Suzuki / Swift / Sport 5-dr hatch
Overview
THE humble current-generation Suzuki Swift has been a favourite of ours at GoAuto since it first appeared here in February last year.
While not the most technologically advanced or sharp light-car on the market – those titles belong to the Volkswagen Polo and Ford Fiesta – the competent and charming little Suzuki holds its own through sheer force of personality.
Now the brand has released the Sport – a follow up to the well-regarded previous-generation model – and the question is, has it managed to add enough extra spark and energy to make a serious dent in Australia’s highly popular hot-hatch market?

Previous model
SUZUKI Australia released the first-generation Swift Sport back in 2006, adding a bigger splash of sportiness to its already highly competent light-car.
Peak power from the buzzy 1.6-litre naturally aspirated four-cylinder engine was 92kW – 17kW higher than the garden-variety variants - matched exclusively to a quick-shifting five-speed manual gearbox.
The Sport warm-hatch was further differentiated from its more humble stablemates by a sporting body kit, additional equipment and aggressive cabin accoutrements like a stainless steel gear knob and pedals.
