Outlandishly small SUV

Mitsubishi is planning a compact SUV to slot underneath the growing Outlander

MITSUBISHI has revealed a sketch and brief details of yet another curiously named SUV concept, ahead of its global debut at September’s Frankfurt motor show alongside the production Lancer Evo X sedan.
Measuring just 4100mm long, the Concept-cX is a small but surly five-door crossover that could slot under the company’s big new seven-seat Outlander “compact” SUV.
Described as a new-generation SUV that strikes “an ideal balance between environmental and everyday practical performance”, the latest Mitsubishi concept employs a new 1.8-litre diesel engine with variable-geometry (VG) turbo, diesel particulate filter (DPF) and diesel oxidation catalyst (DOC) technology.
It is mated to Mitsubishi's new dual-clutch Sport Shift Transmission (SST), which will debut in the company’s all-new Lancer sedan due on sale here in October.
While the cX’s 19-inch 225/45-section tyres, split tailgate and electronically controlled 4WD system could reach production, wacky technology includes a “Green Plastic” interior trim material, which is made from bamboo and other plant-based resins.
