VOLVO Cars Australia has issued a safety recall notice for diesel versions of its current-generation S80 flagship sedan and XC70 crossover wagon.
The Swedish maker advises that premature belt tensioner wear may lead to excessive noise and, in the worse case scenario, “loss of drive resulting in immobility of the vehicle and loss of power steering assistance”.
The problem affects 286 model year 2007 and 2008 versions of the latest S80, launched in Australia in February 2007 and with VINs ranging between 000862 and 082770, and the latest XC70, released locally in December 2007 and with VINs ranging between 000330 and 040256.
Volvo says it will write to all affected consumers by mail and, if repairs are necessary, dealerships will replace the belt and the belt tensionser.
