As well, it has added a petrol-electric hybrid version - the first in the Porsche range.
A diesel - more fuuel efficient that the hybrid - is also offered, along with the performance variants, a V8 and V8 Turbo.
Model release date: July 2010
Previous model
PORSCHE released its first SUV back in 2003 on a platform shared with Volkswagen Touareg and later stretched to go under the Audi Q7.
Porsche aimed the Cayenne more at Range Rover and Mercedes Benz M-class rather than BMW X5, by equipping it with height adjustable suspension, locking differentials and deep low range gearing to give it go-anywhere ability. The original model was available with naturally aspirated and turbocharged V8 petrol engines to be the king of high performance off-roaders.
A mid-life upgrade early in 2007 saw edgier styling, bigger V8 engines and a V6 entry level model introduced. A road scorching GTS V8 and Porsche’s first diesel fuelled model also came in the later years of the first generation.
