Jeep / Patriot / 5-dr wagon
Overview
AMID the turmoil of the past few years, the Chrysler group has managed to keep updating models like the Patriot – a car-based compact SUV that is related to a host of other branded vehicles including the Mitsubishi Outlander and Dodge Journey.
Along with a near-invisible facelift, the US engineers have installed better quality interior materials and revised suspension settings, but have they done enough for the Patriot Series II to stand scrutiny in such a fiercely contested and ever-evolving segment?

Previous model
JEEP’S first compact SUV came in two flavours – urban Compass or more rugged Patriot as featured here – and departed from the brand norm in being car-based.
Derived from the same Mitsubishi GS-developed platform that underpins a variety of models including the Lancer, Outlander and Dodge Journey, the part-time AWD Patriot came in a single four-door wagon body shape, in Sport or Limited guises.
The base engine was the 125kW/220Nm 2.4-litre DOHC four-cylinder petrol unit married to either a five-speed manual or six-speed CVT auto, while the VW-supplied 2.0-litre four-pot turbo-diesel providing 103kW and 310Nm relied solely on a six-speed manual gearbox.
