Ford confirms new Mondeo wagon and premium hatch, but no sedan this time

FORD Australia has confirmed prices and features of the new MB Mondeo range that will include a hatch and a wagon but no sedan in the facelifted range to be launched this month.

As revealed by GoAuto last month, a new premium model called Titanium will be available in hatch form.

The new Mondeo wagon, which Ford hopes will give it something to lure buyers away from the Holden Commodore Sportwagon, will kick off with a $1000 premium over the comparable hatch variants.

The wagon will be available only with the naturally aspirated 2.3-litre four-cylinder petrol engine, not the 2.5-litre turbo five-cylinder of the XR5 or the 2.0-litre turbo diesel.

The Mondeo LX wagon will be priced at $32,990 and the Zetec wagon will cost $37,990. The wagon will not have a premium Titanium variant.

Ford Australia has dropped the Mondeo sedan, which had been available in LX, Zetec and diesel form in the previous MA line-up.

It said the decision was made after a close inspection of the sales mix and the complexity of the range, which would have grown to 12 had the three sedans been retained.

Pricing for the Mondeo hatch range is unchanged, starting at $31,990 for the LX petrol, $36,990 for the Zetec petrol and $44,990 for the XR5 Turbo petrol model. The diesel Zetec hatch is $39,990.

The new Titanium hatch will cost $42,990 for the petrol model and $45,990 for the diesel.

It introduces technology usually reserved for more expensive vehicles. This includes a forward collision warning system, adaptive cruise control and cornering headlights.

The Titanium sits on firmer sports suspension and 18-inch alloy wheels, has a body kit, alcantara and leather combination sports seats, Bluetooth phone preparation, dual zone climate control, premium Sony sound system, a sunroof, keyless entry and start as well as rain-sensing wipers. It is only available with a six-speed automatic transmission.

Like all other Mondeo models it comes with electronic stability control and front, side, curtain and driver knee airbags.

Mondeo wagon specifications match the hatch.

For the LX, this includes the standard safety features as mentioned above, a six-speed automatic transmission, air-conditioning, Bluetooth phone preparation, cruise control, electric windows in the front only, CD sound with MP3 input and 16-inch steel wheels.

The specification for the Zetec adds 17-inch alloy wheels, front fog lamps, dual-zone climate control, premium Sony CD sound, USB music port, front and rear parking sensors, rain sensing wipers, automatic headlights and front and rear electric windows.
