Mercedes announces lower prices across the board for its all-new C-class Estate

MERCEDES-BENZ Australia has slashed the price premium on its upcoming new C-class wagon variants over equivalent sedans from $4400 for the previous model to $1800.

The entry-level five-speed auto-only C200 Kompressor Estate is priced at $58,890 and is just arriving in local showrooms, nine months after the sedan was launched here.

It has identical specification levels as the sedan and is powered by the same 135kW/250Nm 1.8-litre supercharged four-cylinder engine– the first time a diesel has been offered in a C-class wagon.

Landing in September will be the next two C-class wagon variants – the 2.1-litre 125kW/400Nm turbo-diesel C220 CDI, which will be priced at $63,100, and the mighty 6.2-litre V8-engined C63 AMG, with 336kW/600Nm driving through a seven-speed auto and carrying a pricetag of $141,300.

This is the first AMG-enhanced C-class wagon to be offered in Australia since the C43 AMG was discontinued in November 2000.

In addition to the sedan’s options list, the three wagons can also be ordered with an automatic-closing and opening tailgate ($1010), a load-securing kit ($700), a self-levelling pneumatic suspension ($2000) and dark-tinted privacy glass ($1010), although the latter two are not available on the C63 AMG Estate.

Mercedes claims that the C-class Estate’s 1500 litres of cargo space with the rear seats folded is not only 146 litres more than the previous C-class wagon, but is almost 10 per cent greater than its nearest competitor.
