Audi / Allroad / 3.0 TDI 5-dr wagon
Overview
AUDI, like Subaru with its Outback and Volvo’s XC70, believes that some buyers are willing to forgo the bulk of an SUV for a ‘crossover’ that combines all-wheel drive ability with the lightness and litheness of a traditional wagon.
Except that it costs around $20,000 more than the equivalent Q7 SUV, the Allroad TDI quattro has all the ingredients to give premium SUVs a real scare.
Even as it is, the Audi is a real luxury segment contender anyway.
Model release dates: May 2007 - March 2009
Previous model
Audi's original A6 Avant-based Allroad (the C5) first came Down Under in 184kW/350Nm 2.7-litre turbo petrol V6 guise in February 2001, priced at $99,250. It was followed in May 2002 by the 132kW/370Nm 2.5-litre turbo-diesel V6 variant, priced at $88,070. Then in January 2004 came the 220kW/380Nm 4.2-litre petrol V8 flagship, priced at $108,900. All were mated to a five-speed automatic transmission, with only the 2.7T coming as a (six-speed) manual, with low-range gear ratios.
