Like the Mitsubishi Pajero iO, the Kia Sportage -
and even its sibling the Suzuki Jimny - the Grand Vitara belongs to the
admirable breed of small 4WDs capable of venturing into the trackless wastes.
Looking like a scaled-down Nissan Patrol, the Grand Vitara is a softer, more
lavish and comfortable version of the handy little Vitara off-roader that was
the preferred choice of many young, image-conscious buyers.

The Vitara V6 came in 1995 and added the element of smooth sophistication to
Suzuki's lightweight off-roader. The 2.0-litre V6 produced a reasonable 100kW
and was available in the 4-door body only. The 5-seat Suzuki was available as a
5-speed manual or a 4-speed automatic.
