Alfa Romeo MiTo Quadrifoglio Verde hatch

Alfa Romeo will launch a new model variant to its MiTo range by mid-2010 - the Cloverleaf model-leader, which is powered by a 125kW 1.4-litre MultiAir turbo engine, via a new six-speed manual transmission. A self-shifting DDCT gearbox, Alfa’s first double-clutch transmission, is also expected to be added to the MiTo range.

Aston Martin One-77

The Aston Martin One-77 is claimed to be the most expensive car in the world – costing approximately $4 million. Only 77 examples will be built. All body panels are sculpted by hand from aluminium sheet and the interior tailored for each of its 77 owners. Power is by a 7.0-litre 522kW V12 engine.

British sportscar brand Aston Martin will bring its sensational four-door Rapide to Australia in April. Priced from $366,000, the direct rival for Porsche’s Panamera and Mercedes-Benz’s CLS is powered by a 355kW 6.0-litre V12 mated to a six-speed automatic.

Audi A3

Audi’s latest A3 hatchback has come in for a thorough cosmetic and engine upgrade. Volkswagen’s new 77kW/175Nm 1.2-litre TSI turbo-four will lead a list of four-cylinder engines, while revised interior and exterior designs, new paint colours and new high-tech options will also be introduced.

Audi A5 RS5

Audi-BMW fight ratchets up a notch as RS5 Coupe targets M3. Powered by a free-revving 331kW/430Nm 4.2 V8 that drives all four wheels via a seven-speed ‘S-tronic’ dual-clutch transmission, the RS5 will blast to 100km/h in a claimed 4.6 seconds – the same figure quoted by BMW for the M3 Coupe.

Citroen will launch its DS3 range by mid-2010. Australia will be offered the 82kW 1.6-litre turbo-diesel engine and the 112kW turbo-petrol engine. Both will be available here with a six-speed manual or automatic transmission. Priced from $30,000, the DS3 competes directly with BMW’s Mini and Fiat's 500.

The Prancing Horse supercar brand’s big launch for 2010 will be the 458 Italia in June. A replacement for Ferrari’s entry-level F430 coupe, the 458 packs a 4.5-litre V8 and dual-clutch automated manual transmission that delivers 0-100km/h sprints in a claimed 3.4 seconds.

Fiat Punto

An upgraded Punto range is due to be launched late 2010. Minor interior and exterior trim changes are expected. To be available in three and five-door variants, the revised Punto will offer carryover 1.3-litre and two 1.9-litre four-cylinder turbo-diesels, plus a 1.4-litre SOHC four-cylinder petrol engine.
